Cape Verde 'offers island investment potential'

Rising numbers of visitors to the country are likely to contribute to increased demand for short-term holiday accommodation, meaning those with buy-to-let property on one of the country's ten islands can take advantage.

The Cape Verde national Statistics Institute noted a 26.4 per cent increase in tourists last year and local industry expert Jenny Adams confirmed the trend.

The spokesperson for holiday firm The Cape Verde Experience said Britons are "discovering the appeal of this unique archipelago", resulting in a "buzz" about the islands for the last year.

She added that the tropical climate of the islands off the west coast of Africa means temperatures remain in the high 20s around the year, while rainfall is low.

This all-year appeal to holidaymakers means buy-to-let investors are likely to be able to take advantage from rental demand in both winter and summer.

Property prices in the country are also "a bargain", according to the Global Property Guide, which added that capital values of Cape Verde property increase annually by between ten and 15 per cent.
