The north African nation of Morocco is open to overseas investment, one expert has said.
Morocco welcomes overseas investment
In a bid to increase interest from tourists and investment from people looking to purchase property in the country, laws have been relaxed and new developments started.
According to Karl Morris, Managing Director of Simple Overseas Properties, the destination has a similar climate to the Costa del Sol and offers reasonable house prices.
Townhouses and apartments are available, with developers offering resorts with on-site facilities including tennis courts, swimming pools and restaurants.
However, he added, the "main emphasis" on homes that will appeal to property buyers are beach and golf developmentes.
"The country now welcomes foreign investment and this has started a trend of Spanish developers constructing holiday villages similar to the already well established concept of residential tourism in the Costa del Sol," Mr Morris explained.
Forward-thinking monarch King Mohammed VI came to power in 1999 and has announced plans to increase the number of tourists visiting Morocco to ten million a year by 2012.
